Disadvantage Of Drug Abuse
Drug abuse is the chronic addiction to any form of a drug and this can lead to various kinds of side effects and disadvantages. It has been seen that these forms of drug abuses can have an adverse effect on the health and appetite of the person and in extreme cases it can also lead to death. Over the years it has been seen that the use of illicit drugs like marijuana, cocaine and heroine can lead to various kinds of health problems.
Also the overuse of prescription drugs has been responsible for creating serious medical complications and destroying many family lives and the teenagers and young people are particularly prone to excessive drug use. These teenagers succumb to the lure of drugs easily and they involve themselves in crime and accidents leading to poor performance in schools and society. Also large populations of the adults are also consuming these drugs in spite of knowing about the ill effects of these drugs and the risks that are involved in consuming them.
Basically these drugs were taken for overcoming symptoms of aging, relieving stress and emotional problems. But it should be remembered that over consuming them would only lead to added health problems. These drugs, if taken, during pregnancy, can also lead to birth defects and the baby may show physical, mental, social and behavioral problems in future. Statistics reveal that estimates, about 40 percent of American adults have used an illegal drug at some stage in their life.
One of the most common side effects of these drugs is the bipolar disorder, which is the occurrence of one or more maniac episodes. This is a chronic condition as patients suffering from one maniac episode tend to have more episodes in the future. If there is no proper treatment given for the same on time then this can lead to about four episodes in about ten years and these include disadvantages like patterns of mood swings with depression and manic episodes.
Also most of the individualistic tend to repeat this again and again and various researches indicate that the disorder is caused due to genetic influence. But the most common cause of the bipolar disorder is drug or alcohol abuse. The patients tend to abuse drug and alcohol in order to get relief through self medication or to stabilize their mood swings. It has also been seen that patients with bipolar disorder are more prone to substance use.
These patients also tend to be eleven times more prone to alcohol abuse or drug abuse as compared to the general population and their choices of drugs include cocaine and amphetamines followed by marijuana. Such patients have fear side-effects due to mix up of drugs and this also results in extreme conditions of psychological effects among patients of this disorder. It should be remembered that drug abuse and bipolar disorder is a serious problem as usage of drugs lead to psychoactive effects on the brain and this can also aggravate the disorder.
