The American journal for alcohol and drug abuses states that there has been a drastic increase in cases of these kinds of health problems, which has often turned out to be fatal also. It has been seen that any person can get addicted to various kinds of drugs, which may range from foods to certain fluids. However each drug has its level of addiction and in this context this can differ largely. Different kinds of addictions are there, which can be detrimental in the long run and one of them is drug abuse.

Alcohol abuse is also similar to and has been regarded as a major health problem and this leads to loss of health also. It should be remembered that there are various facts about drug abuse that people are not aware of but most of these are vital for the health and general well being of the body. Both alcohol and drug abuse has a wide range of definitions and in drug abuse this leads to taking a psychoactive drug or performance enhancing drug for a non-therapeutic or non-medical effect.

In drug abuse implies a negative judgment of the drug use in question and this can be compared with the term responsible drug use for alternative views also. Alcohol, amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methaqualone, and opium alkaloids are associated with the term abuse and over the past few years it has been seen that the use of these drugs may lead to criminal penalty in addition to possible physical, social, and psychological harm.

Drug abuses can be of various kinds and these falls into four main categories, which include public health definitions, mass communication and vernacular usage, medical definitions, and political and criminal justice definitions. American researches and statistics reveal that an estimated 4.7% of the global population aged 15 to 64 is consuming these illicit drugs annually. There are many problems that arise due to these drug abuses and these include both mental and physical problems of the body. There are some drugs which are sold as illegal drugs but, in this reference a huge chunk of what was illegal is unlicensed production.

Similarly alcohol consumption is known as abuse when it becomes addictive and the person consuming the same cannot do without it. Usually the consumption of a certain amount of alcohol has been considered healthy in the regular span of life also but the over use of alcohol is defined as alcohol abuse. Alcohol can also lead to various kinds of physical and psychological effects along with inter personal effects. The physical effects include problems like gain of weight and also the lack of appetite, which eventually leads to liver and lung problems.

The psychological effects of alcohol abuse include serious consequences like depression, anxiety disorders and psychosis. One also suffers from social and financial problems which includes the loss of employment and lack or respect in the society. Even personal relationships are ruined due to alcohol abuse and drug abuse and hence it is best to avoid delaying this problem further and getting treatment for the same as soon as possible.
