Demerits Of Drug Abuse

There are various kinds of demerits and side effects that drug abuses can have on your health and thus it is vital that caution be exercised while taking any drugs, let alone getting addicted to the same. The term drug abuse is basically used to define the purposeful over dosage of any drug and hence it is advised that these drugs should be taken only through dosage and prescription. But this can happen only in cases of prescribed drugs there are various other drugs that are not legal and are consumed in illicit forms.

Drug abuse can be termed as the chronic addiction to any form of a drug and this can lead to various kinds of side effects and demerits. There can be various forms of drug abuses and these can have an adverse effect on the health and appetite of the person including death in extreme cases. Years of research and studies have shown that the use of illicit drugs like marijuana, cocaine and heroine can lead to various kinds of health problems and hence addiction to the same needs to be tackled as soon as possible.

Serious medical complications and destroying many family lives have been the result of overuse of prescription drugs especially teenagers and young people are particularly prone to excessive drug use. Various teens succumb to the lure of drugs easily and they involve themselves in crime and accidents leading to poor performance in schools and society. But saying that only teens are more prone to drug addiction would be incorrect as there are various adults also, who are consuming the same, and suffer from the ill effects of these drugs.

The initial use of all these drugs was for overcoming symptoms of aging, relieving stress and emotional problems but in the long run over consuming it would only lead to added health problems. Again it should be remembered that if these drugs are taken, during pregnancy, it can also lead to birth defects and the baby may show physical, mental, social and behavioral problems. Various statistics reveal that about 40 percent of American adults have used an illegal drug at some stage in their life.

Some of the most common demerits of drug abuse and drug addiction are the bipolar disorder, which is the occurrence of one or more maniac episodes. In this state there is a chronic condition and the person starts to suffer from one maniac episode tend to have more episodes in the future. In case there is no proper treatment given for the same on time, then this disorder can lead to various kinds of additional mental and physical health problems.

There are various other demerits which are caused due to these drug abuses and these include loss of appetite, failure of the liver and other vital organs due to the over dosage of these drugs and various other kinds of psychoactive demerits are also there which can lead the person to become an anti social and thus affect their lives forever. These extreme reactions can make on forget their sanity and commit acts for which repentance is a price too small to pay.
