Drug Abuse In High School

These days there has been a drastic increase in the cases of drug abuse and it has been seen that high school drug abuse is on the rise drastically. Hence it is necessary to impose measures through which the drug abuse in these schools can be stopped and the necessary measures for prevention should be taken. One of the most vital factors here is that both the parents and the teachers should be aware of the behavioral changes and other related changes in such teenagers and high school students.

Most of the young adult show signs of using or abusing chemicals and these may be very severe forms of drugs also. In such cases, the parents who are aware of these signs would have the advantage of helping out their children, so that they are able to help before more serious problems begin to occur. There are various forms of behavioral changes and other related changes that can help in understanding the most common behavioral signs which students exhibit when using drugs or alcohol.

One of the major changes depicted here are the changes in friends and school teachers and even the parents would notice a change in the group, which the child had earlier along with switching friends and hanging around other people who are usually very different than their old friends. Along with a change in the friends that they have, there would also be a change in the ability level of their performance. Most of the times, the grades of such students, drop drastically, and there is major change in regular grades and performance level.

The other changes that most parents or teachers of the high school experience are the alterations in behavior along with mood swings. Here the child would be displaying emotional swings, which are usually high one day and low the next day and thus the child could be aggressive or very quite. Also the use words would be very different here and you would find that your child is using more of abusive words along with swears, which are seen in most high school abuse cases.

The high school students who are into drugs would also start to withdraw and isolate themselves. Most of the times, they would prefer being alone and avoiding communication with their family members and friends. There would also be an alteration in their behavior, in terms with secrecy, and such students would be exhibiting very secretive behavior. Such student usually try and keep things to them, wanting to avoid all kinds of conservations, especially ones related to their behavior changes.

Apart from this some of the other changes in the drug abuse students from high school include suspicious behavior while spending money, as they would be spending a lot of money than they usually do. Also the alcohol bottles from homes are missing in a lot of cases. You would also experience a great change in their diet and weight and they would be losing weight at a drastic level. Hence you should try and keep a track of their behavior to ensure that they don't fall prey to such abuses.
