Significance Of Weight Loss
Being obese or over weight can cause a lot of problems in everyday life, socializing, traveling and of course in health. By losing even a few excess pounds one can enhance his or her life and reduce the risks of ill health.
It is known that obesity is not just an ordinary problem but a serious health hazard. Obesity raises the risks of a number of grave medical conditions such as heart disease and stroke, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, gallbladder disease and gallstones, gout, osteoarthritis, and breathing problems like sleep apnea and asthma.
Statistics reveal that stroke and heart disease are the principal causes of death and disability among people in the United States. Obese people usually have high blood pressure, which often leads to stroke and heart disease. Extremely high cholesterol levels may also result in stroke and heart disease and that are linked with obesity. Obesity may also be responsible for angina and sudden death from heart disease or stroke even without any signs or symptoms.
While obese women face the risks of several types of cancer of the uterus, cervix, gallbladder, breast, ovary, and colon, their male counterparts may develop colorectal cancer and prostate cancer. Although the reasons are still not clear, gallbladder disease is found to be more common among obese people. However, even rapid or big weight loss can actually increase a person's chances of developing gallstones. The extra kilos in an obese person exert additional pressure on their knee; hip and lower back joints and wear away their protective cartilage resulting in osteoarthritis. An overweight person also suffers from sleep apnea, which causes a person to snore heavily and to stop breathing for short periods during sleep; it may cause daytime sleepiness and even heart failure.
Mobility is impaired by carrying more weight than normal, putting a strain on the back and joints especially the knees. Carrying fat around the midriff makes people more susceptible to diabetes and obesity increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. So it seems obvious that any reduction will bring down that risk of endangering the health. Cholesterol levels come down, the pancreas is more able to keep sugar levels within normal limits and less fat in the body brings down the risk of a stroke.
In fact, besides avoiding all those diseases being slimmer makes traveling more comfortable, joints are relieved, mobility eases and breathing improves. People will feel more motivated and more positive about themselves so are more likely to continue exercising and eating healthily. Also the skin and hair will improve giving out an over all feeling of well being. Clothes will be easier and more exciting to buy, the choice will increase and one will be able to be more adventurous. Even though people are told every day that more and more of them are over weight there are very few shops on the high street that sell a full range of clothes in larger sizes. All of us know that it is hard to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle without really working at it but the benefits are such that they out weight the toil. Knowing that the health has improved and looking in the mirror and seeing the person they want to be is reward enough.
