How To Get Rid Of Sleep Snoring

Snoring can well make your life miserable. I mean of all the things to hear when you wake up in the morning, the least pleasant is your roommate/partner saying, ‘thanks for the rock concert I didn't want to hear'. So yes, if you want to ring your snoring's neck, you have the sympathies of many.

Many people tend to associate snoring with advanced age. This is not entirely true. Sure, as the years get along, any human being's chances of snoring will be greater than those in the earlier years, but that's not a rule etched stone. Even little babies snore, if you observe closely (and silently).

The reason behind snoring is that while we sleep, our breathing becomes slower, but we still breathe. If for any reason our windpipe, which carries air to the lungs gets blocked, or obstructed, our lungs make an extra effort to ‘pull in' air. This is what causes the snoring. Anything from your sleeping posture, to what you eat to your age can have an effect on the windpipe.

To help your snoring problem you can try a number of things such as;

1. Don't sleep on your back. Try sleeping on your side. When you sleep on your back, the chances of the windpipe muscles caving in are greater. This may lead you to snore. If you've always slept on your back, this may take a little getting used to. But make the effort.

2. Don't drink hot milk right before going to bed. Although you may use to relax and get better sleep, dairy products tend to produce mucus which lines the inside of the windpipe. The resulting blockage may cause a good deal of snoring. Try taking warm water with some honey or lemon juice. Or a little aromatic tea, they are just as relaxing and don't cause mucus build up.

3. Heavy drinking can also cause the muscles in the body to overly relax. In case of your windpipe this means that while you snore, it's more likely to collapse. Again this is what could cause you to snore (really loud!). Avoid taking too much alcohol and going to the bar every night is good for socializing, but just remember when you go home you still need a peaceful night's rest. And so does your roommate/partner.

4. Try to relieve stress without using medication. If you're stressed out, it may seem like a quick and easy solution to take some anti-depressants but you're actually better off turning to meditation, aroma therapy or yoga.

While these are some tips that should significantly help you with your snoring, there are certain factors which will ultimately contribute to snoring and be a bit out of your control. For starters, if you're a dude, you're more likely to snore. It's another one of those ‘guy things' only this isn't so fun. The tips above should help you significantly, but in case you think things are getting out of hand, see a physician. Also, if you are getting along in years, your tendency to snore will increase, and so will the decibel. The above tips are again helpers, and if snoring is your only problem at an advanced age, consider yourself blessed.
