2. Be realistic about the goals you set. Don't expect the habit to die over night, it won't. but be consistent and set small goals like cutting down half and then half of that and so on.
3. Make a list of all the reasons you have for wanting to quit smoking. This list should be by your side constantly. Pick a reason from this list and repeat it to yourself 10 times before going to bed every night.
4. Mark a special day as the day you will quit smoking. Let it be your birthday, wedding anniversary, Christmas, new year, etc. stick to the date and don't let anything deter you. Make the quit an event and a something to be celebrated.
5. Make a change in your routine to gear up for the path ahead. Start off with some light exercise, drink more fluids, preferably water, getting plenty of rest and avoiding fatigue.
There are lots of ways people help themselves to quit smoking, and everyone has a different ‘formula', so to say. What works for one may not work for the other. But here are some general tips that have won the endorsement of many;
1. Switch to brand that you hate. While you practice on cutting back your cigarette intake, switch to a brand you find utterly distasteful. This will pretty much make you hate the taste all together, making the quit easier.
2. Involve a friend, and have someone you trust keep a bit of an eye on you. Just knowing that you're answerable will be a good motivation.
3. Don't think about ‘I'll never smoke as long as I live'. Just think about each day as it comes. It'll make you a quitter for keeps.
