Harmful Effects Of Smoking

Smoking is a dreadful habit that badly affects the overall health as well as the health of others when exposed to second have smoke. If some one is a smoker or are contemplating taking up the habit, he or she needs to consider the harmful effects of smoking cigarettes in order to quit or to never start in the first place. It is no secret that smoking nicotine is one of the most addictive substances around. This toxic substance actually has the potential to increase the risk of so many smoking related diseases. Cigarette smoking is the principal cause of heart disease and cancer.

When people smoke, the blood vessels in their body constrict, causing a reduction in blood flow. This condition increases the chances of having a heart attack or stroke. Smokers are also greatly prone to contract respiratory illnesses such as emphysema and various forms of cancer including the most common which are mouth, lung, and esophagus. Cigarette smoke also seeps into the skin, hair, clothes, and other fabrics. Very few people notice the way they smell or how their home smells while they smoke. People are probably oblivious to it but their non-smoking friends and family will notice right away. There is no reason to get surprised if people find others avoiding them because of the bad smoky odor. Everything from their car to their home can reek of the nasty smell. Hair and cloth are the primary place to soak up the smell. Sensitive people can immediately tell when a person is a smoker because they can smell it right away even if they are a few feet away.

Smoking takes a toll on the skin as well. People hardly notice how easy it is to tell who is a smoker just by their appearance. Smokers generally tend to look very aged and these people develop wrinkles faster than the average person which makes them look much older than they really are. People will also notice that some of the smokers develop a deeper, raspier voice, another bad side-effect from smoking. If women are pregnant, should avoid smokers at all costs as second hand smoke is just as dangerous as smoking a cigarette own self. Smoking can result miscarriages as well as other birth defects if exposed to cigarette smoke throughout the pregnancy.

Most of the people may think that smoking especially less often or choosing low-tar cigarettes is a safer option and that they can continue to smoke without the negative side-effects. This is actually not the case at all. The best option for anyone is to quit for good. There are no short-cuts in life saving when it comes to smoking cigarettes. Whether people smoke a pack a day or one cigarette a day, they are still increasing their chances of contracting respiratory problems, strokes, heart attacks, or worse. Nicotine addiction makes people very difficult to quit smoking but it is not impossible. Hundreds of smokers can quit smoking successfully every day by finding a program right for them or by having a strong will and quitting cold turkey. If some one is a smoker, should take back his or her life and their health by giving up the dangerous habit as soon as they can.
