Effective Ways To Quit Smoking
Smoking is a killer habit and life destroying addiction. Gone are the days when we were all oblivious about what smoking could do to the smokers' health. Not just the individual, but the generations to come, and then there are the health hazards pose by second hand smoke. In summary, your best bet about smoking is to quit it as soon as you can and run for the hills if someone offers you a smoke.
Of course quitting is easier said than done, and it would be ignorance to think otherwise. It will take determination and perseverance on your part and support from all your friends. Support groups can be your biggest line of defense against an addiction, and smoking is indeed one. Cigarettes have basically two important ingredient; tar and nicotine. Tar is the dangerous and deathly substance that covers the inside of the lungs and causes lung cancer. Nicotine on the other hand is what causes addiction. The shivers and quivers that most people get when they quit smoking is the result of the nicotine.
Tips to Help In Quitting Smoking:
1. Know the evil: before you can really get motivated about quitting your smoking habit, you will need to engrave into your mind the hazards that smoking is doing to you. I mean really just get all the gory details with pictures. The internet and your local physician's office will be full of pictures of smoker's lungs. Take a look at all the health hazards that smoking puts you through, such as lung cancer, high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure, etc. Smoking also increases your risk for contracting other kinds of cancer, not to mention early death.
2. Consult Physician: no one ever said giving up smoking would be the easiest thing you would ever do, possibly the best, but not the easiest. And since you're giving up an addiction, you will have a few demons to face. Best you do it with a qualified physician in your corner. Don't just wake up one morning and throw out the box of cigarettes, swearing that you will never see it again. You'll be more likely to rebound. Consult your physician, get to know about all the symptoms of quitting to smoke and how best to deal with them. Sometimes it takes a little medication to help you along the way, but this is something only your physician can recommend.
3. Try the Postponing Theory: this is the theory we generally apply to taking out the trash. Every day of your life as a smoker, you had a ‘first cigarette of the day'. Well, when on your way to quitsville, try egging yourself on, tell yourself, ‘I'll take the first cigarette in just a while' and so on. Sure you'll probably take one cigarette, but look at the many that you missed. As time passed, you'll be able to postpone for days, weeks and then soon enough, for a lifetime.
4. Stop Smoking Tea: this is a rather innovative way to get you to stop smoking. The tea helps to satiate the nicotine craving and there are no adverse chemical side effects.
