The first phase of this diet is a two week cycle; in the second phase, people are allowed to eat fruit and whole grain food, but in smaller amounts. The final phase of South Beach diet is what is called the maintenance phase. By the time people reach the final phase they should be at their goal weight. During this phase people consume 3 servings of fruit and 3 servings of whole grain foods.
The second popular diet that has been around for some time is the Atkins Diet. This diet was named after its originator, Robert Atkins. The basic idea behind Atkins Diet is to moderate the intake of carbohydrates. The foods to be avoided while on Atkins Diet are carbohydrates that attack the body's blood sugar. By eliminating this type of carbohydrate from the diet people decrease the hunger pangs due to low blood sugar. Atkins Diet focuses on the body's metabolism burning stored body fat instead of glucose. The Atkins diet is also done in several phases. The first phase restricts the diet from over eating food that is rich in carbohydrate; with these restrictions the dieter has been known to lose up to 10 lbs in the first phase. In the next phase people are allowed to increase their carbohydrate intake and surprisingly, they still lose weight. The final phase is to determining how many carbohydrate people can eat during the day without gaining any weight.
The third diet plan is far from being popular as well as the others, but seems to be gaining good reviews. This diet is called The Best Life Diet, which does not restrict any certain types of food, but this is a diet that gradually changes the food choices. Best Life Diet does not involve calorie counting and actually leave portion amounts to the dieter.
