The Dean Ornish Diet was named after the creator Dean Ornish. The Dean Ornish diet plan was popularized in the book "Eat More, Weigh Less". This diet plan is very low in fats and calories, but rich in carbohydrates. It has an absolutely vegetarian bent, and showcases Ornish's theory that fat calories are the primary cause of weight gain rather than the all calories created equal approach highlighted by some of the more recent popular diets. The allowed beverages on this diet plan are water, coffee, tea, skimmed mild and juices. Foods that are not allowed in Dean Ornish diet plan are meats, poultry and fish. Only a few number of diary products are permitted such as fat free yogurt and milk, along with low fat cheese.

People who follow this diet plan not only feel better, they have achieved better tests results which are very impressive and a big part of its popularity with physicians and other health care professionals. For most of the people though the only downside of Dean Ornish diet is missing their favorite foods but for many others their favorite foods are not even healthy to begin with. People are only putting harmful things into their bodies which will eventually catch up with them so regardless of the path to get there, experts think all people should agree it would be better to be healthy and alive then continue an unhealthy diet regardless of what it may be called.

The Dean Ornish diet plan also includes a full program including exercise routines, meditation and group therapy. The diet books include recipes on how to cook what people can eat. Those people who have applied this diet plan seriously to their lifestyle have also felt more energetic and of course have lost weight. It is common though for some people to regain excess weight if they go off the diet but there is no reason why this diet plan could not become daily part of their life.
