Dangers Of Atkins Diets
There are various kinds of flaws and problems in Atkins diet and hence the people who follow these diets should be aware of the dangers of the same. The Atkins diet is successful to a certain extent, but in the long run, this diet can lead to many health problems. Atkins diet is popular diet of our times known but it has failed to continue its reign over the weight loss world due to the lack of certain essential nutrients.
Nutritionists say that it is essential to eat more of healthier foods that are lower in fat rather than eating fats and carbs. These fats and carbs are harmful for the body and add to the fat deposits and thus there quantities should be minimized. But they also encourage the consumption of healthier fats that are usually found in nuts and other forms of plants and animal extracts.
These are known as healthier forms of fats and carbs and most dieticians encourage eating some fat for regular body functions. Apart from this the dieticians today don't suggest the Atkins diet and instead focus on eating healthier meals at frequent intervals of the day.
This is essential for fat loss because frequent eating through out the day helps the body to lose fat faster due to high metabolic rate. However the Atkins diet fails because no forms of carbohydrate foods were allowed during the initial step on Atkins diet, especially for vegetarians. This would last for first two week stage and only 20 grams of carbohydrates were allowed for the dieters on a daily basis. For vegetarians other forms of foods were essential because vegetables were eliminated from the diet.
The Atkins diet for vegetarians had healthy carbs but this was restricted during the induction stage of the Atkins diet and had to be maintained at the lowest level possible. Apart from this, there was also the need for an increased protein level on the Atkins diet for vegetarians. Hence vegetarians have very little choices while following the Atkins diet and they have to become an ovo-lacto vegetarian for following the same. This implies that consumption of eggs, cheese, and milk was vital for vegetarians and use of cheese, eggs, and tofu were increased.
This ensured that the vegetarians were able to follow the Atkins diet. Also following this diet over a period of few weeks gave the required results of weight loss but the diet has failed to be continued in the long run. This happened due to the lack of certain essential nutrients and the increased use of proteins. Most of these proteins are found largely in the lean meats and other forms of animal flesh. Also the lack of carbohydrates and fats in the body leads to various kinds of liver ailments.
In Atkins diet you don't get good carbohydrates, which may result in eating more of saturated and Trans fats. This diet acts on the body by switching the burning carbs for energy and the burning of ketones. This was an essential feature for conversion of fat to energy and thus the diet failed to give ample energy to the body.
