There is no doubt that hypertension is more of a mental problem but it can also be caused due to various kinds of physical reasons. In medical terms, the word Hypertension is defined as the condition where the arterial blood pressure is consistently above the normal range. To check your blood pressure you should be aware that the reading consists of two numbers and the numbers at the top represents systolic pressure. This is also the amount of pressure that the heart generates when pumping blood out through the arteries. The number below represents diastolic pressure and this is the amount of pressure in the arteries when the heart is at rest, in between beats.
A person is said to be suffering from hypertension when the reading is above the 140 (systolic)/90 (diastolic) ranges. Hypertension leads to a series of diseases and ailments and these include kidney disease, heart disease, stroke and vascular disease. People who are suffering from hypertension have a risk of suffering heart attacks and strokes because there is strain on the heart due to increased oxygen needs. Causes of hypertension include hereditary and environmental factors too.
The hereditary factors are basically genetic tendencies while the environmental factors include unhealthy eating habits, stress, smoking, and sedate patterns of lifestyles. Other than these aspects some of the main reasons that affect the blood pressure of a person and lead to hypertension include obesity and high salt content in the body. Two primary kinds of hypertension are essential or primary hypertension and secondary hypertension.
However hypertension is a curable disease and to get rid of the same one should implement common measures to reduce blood pressure. These include loss of weight, stopping or reducing smoking, controlling what you eat and restraining unhealthy forms of fats and carbs in your body. Also reductions in the salt intake and eating more of fruits and vegetables high in potassium are recommended to lower blood pressure.
Hypertension can make a person irritated and angry all the time and too much stress and anxiety are also the causes of hypertension. Hence you can implement measures like meditation and yoga so that you can get rid of these problems and avail good mental and physical health and also remain free from the risk of various diseases.
