Eyebrow Hair Loss

Many people find themselves facing eyebrow hair loss. And since it is a noticeable area, people feel self conscious about it. An autoimmune disease, termed Alopecia Areata, lead to the loss of eyebrow hair. This condition can even affect the scalp hair or other parts of the body having hair. Losing the hair in the eyebrows can be a thing of concern when other health issues are taken into account. However, there are no symptoms except the loss of hair. There are ways to grow back the eyebrow hair but it is difficult to find a remedy that can be totally effective.

The autoimmune disease occurs when the body thinks of the hair follicle as some bacteria and attacks it in trying to protect the body. Hair from the eyebrow falls as a result. Scientists are still not sure why this kind of a disease occurs and that too in some persons and not all. A huge amount of time is needed for the hair in the eyebrow to re-grow and one can do little to make it grow faster.

What is encouraging about Alopecia is that the stem cells in the hair follicle do not get affected by the white blood cells of the attacking immune system. So, once the new cells grow back, new hair also starts to grow. Iodine is essential for growth of hair. Both lack of iodine or an excess dose in the diet can lead to hair loss.

Sometimes, undue stress and an unbalanced diet can also lead to loss of hair in the eyebrows. The only way to stop this is to reduce one's stress load and consume a healthy and nutritious diet. It is always better to contact one's doctor when one is suffering from eyebrow hair loss. The doctor would be the best person to identify the exact cause for such a disease.

Over-plucking and rough plucking of eyebrows can also be the cause behind eyebrow hair loss. Among the other common causes are: low thyroid hormone level, over dose of vitamins, hormonal imbalance during menopause, chemotherapy, dietary imbalance and certain skin disorders. In such cases, the treatment depends on the cause. Once the cause gets diagnosed, the hair loss can be treated.

In certain selected cases hair transplant can be done on the eyebrows. However, before going in for such a transplant, it is better to consult a doctor or a dermatologist and find out the exact reason for the hair loss. In many occasions, the surgery may not be needed. Proper amount of sleep, stress-free life and a nutritious diet can help in solving the problem to a great extent.

There are various home remedies for loss of eyebrow hair. Castor oil application on the eyebrow encourages thick growth of eyebrow hair. One has to leave the oil overnight. Warm coconut oil and olive oil can also aid growth. These home remedies may take time to show results, but are effective. Since oils are rich in proteins and vitamins they can penetrate to the roots of the hair efficiently. Naturally, protein loss from the hair gets stopped and regular use of these oils can prevent hair loss.
