Border Collie Hair Loss
One enjoys keeping dogs and devotes time and attention to it as much as they would give to their own children. However there are certain dogs who are prone to certain kinds of illnesses and health problems and hence it is best to know about the same before you purchase the dog. The Border Collies are dogs that are much more difficult to maintain compared to other breeds of dogs. These require a lot of attention and care as compared to other dogs due to health problems and one of the major factors here is the drastic hair loss, which occurs in this breed.
Due to these reasons the owners of these dogs often have a difficult time in treating them and trying to deal with this problem of hair loss. The Border collies are very intelligent dogs but the also require a larger time and energy commitment because of their high maintenance. It has been seen that many Border Collies end up in shelters, humane societies and rescue organizations since their owners are not able to cope up with their care and choose to abandon them.
Hence it is best for the owners to know about the kind of care and maintenance that this dog requires so that they can take out the required amount of time for their exercise, attention and training along with mental stimulation. Hair loss has been one of the most common problems suffered by this breed of dogs and there are various ways through which this can be dealt with. It has been considered that the Border Collies are not a good pet for a typical pet owner because these breeds are usually very intense workaholics. These dogs are usually the happiest when they have a task to do.
This can be a job like herding or agility or any of the other active occupations and since these dogs don't exercise on their own the masters have to take them for these exercising programs. If these dogs are allowed to laze around too much and their regular shares of exercises are not given to them then it can lead to various kinds of health problems including hair loss. The problem of hair loss in this breed can be due to a great deal of inactive periods that the dog is provided with. Hence you should ensure that your dog gets ample activity during the period.
Hair loss in this breed can also be due to various kinds of internal problems and it has been seen that this hair loss is on various parts of the body especially the back and neck although many people complain of hair loss around the eyes also. In such cases it is best to take your dog to the vet so that you can get to the root of the problem and treat the same. The hair loss can also be harmful for you and it is best to regularly brush your dog for avoiding this problem.
There are various kinds of medications available for treating these problems but they require a certain amount of time.
