Ergonomics Important - Why Are Ergonomics Important For Computer Users?
There is no doubt that people have heard all kinds of the buzz around office ergonomics. But very few of them do really know how home office ergonomics can apply to them. Those people who are their own boss, they are in charge of their office furniture and set up and they can control the ergonomics of their office, and ultimately their own health. A few simple adjustments in what people already own could save them a lot of pain and ultimately a lot of money in lost work and health bills.
However, there are few things what people need to consider when they are looking at home office ergonomics. The most obvious part and one of the simplest items is the office chair. People sit in their office chair for most of the day, every day so it should be comfortable. Not just only comfortable but ergonomically correct. The office chair should first and foremost be comfortable for people to sit in. People should have lumbar support from their chair to protect their lower back. And they should be able to sit with their feet solidly placed on the floor.
Another cause for office aches and pains is the computer keyboard. If people type a lot, or work on their keyboard; they may have noticed aches in their wrists or fore arms. People need to take a look at where their keyboard is. The keyboard should never be sitting on the desk; in fact, it should be lower than the desk on a keyboard tray which is actually is very easy thing to fix; in fact people can easily install a keyboard tray on the underside of their desk. By having their keyboard at a lower level they will reduce the strain on their wrists and save themselves from a lot of pain.
People should be sure to position their computer monitor at the proper height as well. The top of the computer monitor should be at eye level or slightly below. People should not have to look up and strain their neck when they are looking at their computer screen. People also need to keep their monitor clean, as even dust particles that gather on the screen will affect how they see the screen and can strain their eyes. If people use a computer mouse a lot, they should invest in an ergonomically correct mouse that minimizes the strain on their wrist. A traditionally designed mouse demands that the wrist be held at an unnatural angle with a twist.
The same way if people use a laptop computer should consider investing in a separate keyboard and mouse that they can set up properly. A laptop keyboard can cause a lot of unnecessary strain on the arms and wrists because of the condensed set up of the keys and by attaching a separate keyboard people will be able to prevent a lot of damage. Home office ergonomics are much easier to accommodate because people are in control of their own environment now someone else. People can choose the proper set up and equipment to benefit their health and maximize their productivity.
