Eating disorders are usually a mental problem but they can lead to fatal results and serious physical problems because the body suffers if a mental imbalance is created. The main reasons for eating disorders are the lack of information about dieting and unhealthy eating as it has been seen that most people believe starving can help them get over obesity and remain thin. But it actually leads to severe eating problems like anorexia. The other problems with eating disorders are that most of them are associated with depression and mental problems, which are often ignore till they turn very serious.
There are various facts about eating disorders that should be understood because this can lead to ailments and various other mental problems for the body. It should be remembered that first symptoms of eating disorders are the person trying to avoid eating all together or eating too much and then going to the toilet immediately. It should be remembered that these eating disorders are not just about food and weight and most of them result from a series of long-standing behavioral, emotional, psychological, interpersonal and social issues.
Usually most of the people who have an eating disorder will use food as a way of being able to feel as though they have control on their daily lives. Researches show that for many patients suffering from this disorder, the pain of a past or current event is too overwhelming to cope with. Thus an eating disorder can be the ideal way of coping with the situation by feeling that they have controls over their lives. But usually in most cases, this damages the person's physical and emotional health, self-esteem and makes them lose control.
Various psychological factors that can contribute to eating disorders and the most common of these problems include inadequate, depression, anxiety, anger and the feeling of loneliness. Basically those involved in relationships are the worst sufferers and the most common targets of these kinds of disorders. The others who may be prone to these disorders include those who have been bullied and teased and may have a history of physical or sexual abuse.
The teenagers who suffer from these disorders are the target of social pressure and they want to be in the social group or the happening group. Thus they resort to not eating to fit the image of being thin. Some of the most common types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Also there are various possible links between the biochemical and biological causes of eating disorders.
There have been various studies that show that these eating disorders are cause due to the chemicals in the brain that control hunger and thus the appetite and digestion of the person get imbalanced. There are various ways of treating these disorders but the help of the person suffering from the same is vital because without cooperation from the person there is no way that disorder can be cured. Delay in these kinds of treatment can lead to some serious ailments and other psychological problems and in many cases it can lead to possible death.
