Tips On Problems Of Ears Hearing
Most of the people take hearing for granted. What they do never consider is the delicate nature and intricate structure of the ear that enables them to not only hear but interpret what they hear. Hearing is one of the five senses they use to learn about their environment and those who share life with them. And hearing loss is completely curable. In fact, the best hearing care is preventative care; things people can do themselves so they hear better longer. They are simple steps and precautions that will equip them to hear well all of their life.
People must avoid loud noises even for a short time. Hearing loss, called traumatic hearing loss, can occur with one firecracker or shotgun round under certain circumstances. Most of the returning veterans experience traumatic hearing loss caused by nearby explosions. People should always cover their ears to protect the hearing. Also people need to avoid long-term exposure to loud noise. It does not have to be a bang or pop that damages their hearing. The loud background noise in a factory, with time, will cause noise induced hearing loss or NIHL. For this, people should wear ear protection.
People should never purchase cheap hearing amplifiers. The danger of using these cheap devices is that the listeners increase volume levels high enough to hear, but also high enough to do additional damage to the already-damaged hearing mechanism. People must get their hearing ability tested. Even infants can and must be tested and if hearing loss is detected, these children can be fitted with hearing aids at two months. If people experience a change in their hearing or if they are over 50 should get some baseline readings and some help from a hearing health specialist.
People should go unplugged. If they listen to their MP3 player for more than 90 minutes at one time they start to damage the ear mechanics. They should give their ears time to recover every 90 minutes and turn it down. It is good to wear protective gear at work. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) require employers to provide adequate hearing protection but the process is rarely enforced. That means if the workplace is noisy and people do not wear ear plugs or cups, they are only hurting themselves. People should wear protective gear even if they have to buy it themselves!
It is also important to wear protective gear at home. Noise canceling headphones block out ambient noise and protect the delicate hearing parts when mowing the lawn, vacuuming the rug or engaged in other loud activities. Hearing loss can take place at any age. Most of the people think of hearing loss as something only old folks face which is not true. Hearing loss can be caused by age for sure, but it can also be caused by trauma or disease or even common medications. People should cut down on the aspirin. Numerous studies show a connection between prolonged, heavy use of aspirin and aspirin substitutes and ear hearing loss. In fact, there are many ototoxic drugs, drugs that damage hearing ability as a side effect. People should talk to their physician about their aspirin intake and hearing loss.
