If a cat is scratching wildly at the ears or rubbing his head on the furniture constantly, there might be an ear problem that needs the owner's attention. As the health of the pets, particularly cat health, can quickly fail, if the cat is making repetitive motions, it is best to get treatment for their issues before they become sicker. If the cat is diagnosis with ear mites, it is important that the owner get her to the vet immediately, as ear mites can lead to further infections and permanent hearing loss.

Ear mites are spider like tiny insects which crawl into the warm, darkness of the cat's ear and set up shop. Treating ear mites properly and in an effective way is simple. A veterinary surgeon can prescribe eardrops which will kill of the ear mites. It is also advisable by the doctors to use flea powder on the cat, as flea powder can kill off any eggs of mites which are attached to the fur of the cats. While the owners have the flea powder out, they should treat their home and the bedding of their pet to make sure that any and all eggs are abolished.

Other things to consider when managing the pet's health care are protecting the cat from sunburns. Cats are actually not immune to sun burn; particularly light colored cats can get severely burned on their ears, causing cancers and ultimate amputation of the ears. The owners should always use non toxic sun screen. If they are unsure, should ask their vet. A regular check of the ears is also necessary for debris, as trash in the ear can draw bacterial and fungal infections. Whether the cat remains indoors or outdoors, debris can always find its way into their ears, so it is wise to step up a schedule to monitoring the cat's ear health. Perhaps when the owner applies the monthly flea control, they can inspect their cat's ear health. Including this with another scheduled pet health care program will help the owners to remember to check. The inner ear of a cat is just as fragile and important as their inner ear, so maintaining a health environment for that ear drum is clear.
