Recently, STI or sexually transmitted infection has become the terminology that is commonly used and has a broader range of application, such as with a person who is not showing signs of the disease but is a carrier and has the capability of infecting other people. Sexually transmitted infections are nothing new and have been around for hundreds of years. Up until the 1990's, the infections were just defined and described as venereal diseases. If people are sexually active and they want to protect themselves from infection, then they need to take certain precautions, especially if their sexual activity involves more than one partner which is ill advisable anyway. Furthermore, certain sexually transmitted diseases can cause severe physiological and psychological conditions, and can even kill people. In so many words, the life depends on taking steps to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. Here are a few ways that people can avoid being infected.

The first thing they need to do before getting physically close to a partner is to make sure that they are clean so they both are not at risk. Now this may sound like a no-brainer, but people would be amazed at the number of individuals who just engage in sexual activity without even giving this aspect a second thought. People must look for the warning signs with the male or female genitalia: Odd discolorations; Rashes or Sores.

If there is anything wrong or worrisome about the sex organ of the potential sexual partner, then people should use a condom better yet, avoid having sex with them altogether until they know that they cannot infect them with anything. People also should protect themselves by using a condom in fact, this is just common sense. They must remember that they are not just having intercourse with their partner. They are having sex with all of their former partners as well. If People have the slightest bit of doubt about having intercourse with that person, should use a condom! Even if they think that they are not at risk, it is still a good idea. Once they have the trust in their partner that they are clean, and then they can stop using one. People must avoid having sexual intercourse with multiple partners. The signs and symptoms of being infected characteristically do not show up for several weeks, so they could be having sex with another partner and unknowingly infect them. Avoiding having multiple partners increases the odds that people will avoid being infected with an STD themselves.

If they truly want to ensure that they won't contract an STD, then the only real guarantee comes from total abstinence, and in today's world, the likelihood of that happening is remote, so at least think about the steps to prevent STD's that are listed above.
