There are various kinds of problems related to disability and these include both physical and mental problems. It has been seen that most of these problems can be cured through medicines, but only separately. Ayurveda is probably the only exception here which can treat the various kinds of health problems along with mental problems effectively and also rejuvenate the life pattern of the patient. The system of Ayurveda is an ancient system of health care and this is native to the Indian subcontinent.
Basically the word "Ayurveda" is the combination of words āyus, which means life or the principle of life and the word veda, means or refers to a system of "knowledge". The main concept of Ayurvedic medicines or Ayurveda is based on the theory that health and its existence can only happen when there is a balance between three fundamental bodily substances or doshas. These three substances are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha and there are various Ayurvedic resorts, which provide these treatments for healing disabilities.
It should be remembered that these Ayurvedic treatments differ from the majority of conventional cures because this treatment is unique in its approach towards healing. The fundamental principles of treating the sick and not the sickness is central to all forms of Ayurvedic treatments and cures and here emphasis is laid on trying to cure a disease in isolation. Ayurveda takes into account an individual in his or her total form rather than curing one part of the disease or the body.
There are eight divisions of treatments in Ayurveda and these include the Kaya chikitsa or the general treatment, Visha chikitsa also known as Toxicology, the Vajeekarana chikitsa which is the Aphrodisiac treatment, Grahachikitsa or Psychiatry, Urndhanga chikitsa also referred to as ENT & eye diseases treatment, Bala chikitsa or pediatrics, Salya chikitsa or the surgical procedures and Rasayana chikitsa or Geriatrics.
The treatment of disabilities in Ayurveda is done by rejuvenating the system and removing toxic and negative thoughts from the body and the mind. The person suffering from disability is made to relax and try out different foods and yoga exercises that will help him or her overcome these disabilities through mental and physical modes of treatment.
Some of the treatments used here include Panchakarma, which is the collection of purification techniques that Ayurveda prescribes for some diseases and this also helps in periodic cleansing. Then there is the Vamana, which is the medicated emesis therapy and helps to remove Kapha toxins collected in the body and the respiratory tract. Various other combinations of Ayurveda help the body to recover faster from these kinds of problems.
