Causes Of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2

Type 2 diabetes or mellitus is a common form of diabetes that affects health of a person and leads to various kinds of problems for the body. This Type 2 diabetes is a chronic and life long disease, which often leads to the body's insulin not working effectively. This insulin is defined as a hormone that is released by the pancreas and happens in response to increased levels of blood sugar or glucose, found in the blood. There are various causes for the occurrence of these diseases and there are many risk factors involved in the same.

The Type 2 diabetes is caused by a problem that alters the way your body makes or uses insulin. It should be remembered that insulin is vital for glucose to move from the blood to the inside of the cells. And if this glucose does not get into cells, then the body cannot use it for energy. Also the excess glucose remains in the blood and is removed from here by the kidneys. Symptoms of this form of diabetes include excessive thirst, frequent urination and hunger followed by fatigue.

There are several types of diabetes and these include the Type 1 diabetes, which requires total insulin replacement. This is essential in order to live because the body does not make adequate amounts of the same. Then there is the Type 2 diabetes, which is related to insulin resistance. Here the body suffers from the lack of the ability to respond to insulin appropriately. Hence this form of diabetes is often accompanied by obesity and high cholesterol



There is another kind of diabetes also known as gestational diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy. It has been seen that diabetes affects up to 6% of the population in the U.S and the Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90% of all cases. Some of the major factors of the type 2 diabetes are insulin resistance, which implies that insulin produced by the pancreas is not able to connect with fat and muscle cells. This lets the glucose go inside the body and produce energy, which can cause hyperglycemia or high blood glucose.

For compensating this problem the pancreas produces more insulin and here the cells sense this flood of insulin. This leads to them becoming even more resistant, which leads to a vicious cycle of high glucose levels and high insulin levels. Most of the times the Type 2 diabetes usually occurs gradually and the cause of the same are being overweight. Even genetics play a large role in type 2 diabetes and hence people with the family history of the same get affected by this.

The other causes of diabetes are low activity level, poor diet, and excess body weight, which usually happen around the waist. This form of diabetes can significantly increase your risk for type 2 diabetes. Other than this race and ethnicity are also the major causes of this form of diabetes. The people who are older than 45 years are the ones who are most prone to this diabetes and may suffer from severe health problems because of the same.
