We all experience difficulties in life, such as problems in relationship related to infidelity, cheating, insecurity, jealousy, etc. We are born to this world and travel through our life, each following our own unique path. While on the road, we experience different things. How these experiences affect us, depends partially on our genes and partially on environment we live in. As a child, our mind is open to new things. Only few of us are lucky enough in that sense that everything in their life goes exactly the way they would want. Most of us have to at some point in our lives face losses and heartaches of different sorts. Each negative experience will leave a mark into our Mind, and if the cleaning up is not done properly and fast enough, scars may remain forever.
If we have or are going through a bad patch then often it's our mind that becomes our enemy. Bad thoughts keep circulating in our minds and never let us rest in peace. Cheating and infidelity is two such negative emotions from which most of us want to stay away from. We need to keep a control on our mind. We need to eradicate bad thoughts from our mind in order to overcome depression. Often infidelity leads to depression so if we do not give our mind a chance to think about it we will never feel depressed.
If we have experienced lots of negative things in our childhood or during early adulthood, those things are bound to have an affect on our lives. In some cases such environmental factors are not needed, but the enemy can be found from the very structure of one's own brain. We can help ourselves by not thinking about that person. We can take up new activity: a new sport, a new dance class or a new hobby all of which will help us to stay away from bad thoughts.
It would be way too naive to categorize people into mentally healthy and unhealthy individuals. Instead, every individual is a unique mixture between the two. It's comforting to know that it's completely natural to be time to time depressed, obsessed, anxious, to panic etc, as natural as it is to be happy and excited in life. Problems occur if one single mode becomes the ruling factor in everyday life.
Imagine if one could have control over ones feelings instead of other way around. This may first sound unrealistic. The fact is, however, that with sufficient amount of training, people are able to control wide range of physiological processes, such as rate of heart beat and feeling of pain, only to cite few examples. It has been shown that people, who are able to control the level of pain they feel in certain circumstances, are able to inactivate certain neuronal circuits in on-demand fashion.
The secret of success of many of the great leaders of history is thought to be that they were able to direct their concentration solely on task at hand, closing irrelevant thoughts outside. This is true for everyone who is on top of his or her field. In order to win, a chess champion has to be able to shut out all external distracters and direct his undivided attention to game.
