Back Pain Muscle Spasms

When the back muscles ache, or frequently spasm, they are often considered to be overworked. The back muscle pain or soreness may be fatigue. Spasms suggest that the back just can not shut off. Most of the natural therapies can provide people temporary relief. But when a therapy treats the cause, instead of the symptoms, people will feel longer-lasting relief.

People have long muscles that run along the spine often termed as the erector spine muscles. These back muscles are often the guilty muscles when people have back pain and muscle spasms. A spasm is an involuntary sudden contraction of the muscle for a sustained period of time. Usually a spasm takes place when the muscle has been suddenly stressed somehow which can include sprains, injury, tears or bruising. The muscle spasm can actually start in the nerves that lead into the muscle though the feeling is the same no matter where the spasm starts.

Most of the time muscle spasms are tremendous painful, but not so serious. It should be mentioned though that in several cases, the muscle spasm may be a symptom of a more serious back problem. The back is composed of muscles, bones, and ligaments, and injury or disease to any component can result in back pain muscle spasms. Back pain and back muscle spasms can occur anywhere along the spine from the neck to the lower back. A muscle spasm can occur once or it can happen repeatedly. Often the back muscle spasm makes the muscle feel sore and tight even after the spasm subsides. So when people deal with muscle spasms they have two goals. The first aim is to attempt to prevent the reoccurrence of the spasm while the second goal is always to relive the muscle pain and tension after the spasm.

There are many ways people can approach management of back pain and muscle spasms at home. First, they should keep moving. People do not want to go to bed and lie still, because that will cause the muscle to hurt more. Light even aerobic exercises will relieve the muscle stress while strengthening and toning. Also, people can use an ice pack applied to the area and decrease the muscle spasm pain. In addition, people should avoid any heavy lifting or moves similar to the moves they were doing before the spasm.

If the back pain and muscle spasms do not get better with home remedies, they may have to visit the doctor. Frequently, the muscle relaxants are prescribed to relieve muscle tightness or spasms. Muscle relaxants are a short term solution that gives relief from pain while the muscle heals. Also most of the people find a great relief by using over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain relievers. Many medications people can now buy them selves are what were once considered full prescription strength. All of the medicines can reduce swelling and increase muscle flexibility.

Most of the ways of muscle activation or the exercises have been taught and practiced over the years. In ancient far Eastern cultures, exercises like Tai Chi and martial arts have been used to release tension and improve energy-flow to the body muscles. The muscles loosen and release the stagnant energy of the system, clearing and replenishing the whole body.
